Abstract, as submitted
As IT departments admins roll out new types of infrastructure, like kubernetes, they need to know what their "customers" actually need, those customers being developers. Similarly, developers need to understand what operations needs: re-architecting applications to be more resilient and well instrumented, for example. These two roles usually don't understand what each other does, nor how they need to change their day-to-day work to achieve the benefits of DevOps.
To do good work, two people working together need to know each other's motivations, needs, and work-style. They need to understand each other. This talk helps explain to operations people what developers need and what motivates them, and do the same for developers about operations people. At the end, both roles should have a better idea of how to work with the other and, hopefully, that knew understanding will lead to more successful roll-outs of new technologies like kubernetes.
This is the text that went into the CFP form, kept as submitted - not a later rewrite of it. Talks get retitled and reworked between submission and stage, so what was actually delivered may differ.
